To make sure you don’t make any faux pas and can fully enjoy your visit to the Wiesn, we have put together some useful tips for you:

  • Order a “Maß”: Asking for “a beer” will quickly mark you as a first-time visitor. A “Maß” is the traditional measure of beer served at Oktoberfest.
  • Wear traditional clothing: Wearing dirndls and lederhosen is a big part of Oktoberfest and creates a special atmosphere.
  • Bring cash: Only a few tents accept card payments. Make sure you have enough cash to pay for food, drinks and attractions.
  • Be generous: Whether it’s the servers or the cleaning staff, everyone appreciates a bit of a tip. It’s a nice gesture and is very much appreciated.
  • Don’t bring large bags or backpacks: These have been banned since 2016. Instead, use smaller bags to keep your personal items safe.

To help you not find your way around the Wiesn and feel like true Bavarians, we have put together some helpful Bavarian expressions and terms for you:

  • Griasdi, Griasgott: Hello, Good day
